Frequently Asked Questions

What does a Celebrant do?

We marry you! A Marriage Celebrant in Australia is responsible for making sure that you’re legally married and that you complete all the paperwork on time and that it is lodged with Births, Deaths and Marriages. Apart from the Legal requirements i will work with you to create a memorable event that is all about your love for each other.

Where will you marry people?

I love that people choose amazing and diverse venues for their weddings. I'm based in  Melbourne but happy to travel in Victoria, Australia or abroad. Just remember we need to do the legal 'stuff' on Australian land or waters!! I have a reliable car and love long drives.

How far in advance should I book a Celebrant?

It’s important to book your key people as soon as you decide on the special date and venue.

It’s mandatory (unless for very special circumstances covered in legislation) that you give at least 1 months notice on the paperwork.

What legal documents will we need to produce to get married?

  • Under the Marriage Act 1961 you will need to produce the following as evidence of your identity and date and place of birth. Either
    • a driver’s license id card + your birth certificate, or
    • an Australian or overseas Passport
  • If you have previously been married, you will also need to produce evidence of how your last marriage ended. This is either a death certificate, a divorce certificate or a decree of nullity if your previous marriage was annulled. (Happy to talk through this more) give me a call or email.

Who can be our witnesses?

Ideally two very special people in your lives. However as long as they attend the wedding in person, are over 18 and can understand English (so they can follow what is happening during the ceremony), you can choose whomever you want to be your witness!

I’m not from Australia, can I still get married here?

Yes absolutely! As long as you have the minimum identification needed (passport is easiest) and give enough time on the NOIM (1 month) then you can absolutely get married here.

Do you work with LGBTIQ+ couples? I'm non binary / gender diverse, do I have to say wife or husband?

YES. LOVE IS LOVE!

There is no legal requirement to include gendered terms in your wedding. I will take your lead on how we do this.

I’m in a polyamorous relationship and have two partners. Can I marry them both?

No. In Australia you’re only allowed to be married to one person at one time. You can however marry one partner and have a commitment ceremony with your other.

Do you have a PA and Microphone?

Yes! I have a pretty cool, high quality and reliable, Bose S1 Pro System that I use with a professional Sennheiser wireless microphone. I use this system to preform ceremonies, play music pre ceremony, and the processional and recessional songs. If I’m MC’ing your wedding we can also use this for speeches later on. Together, these items provide amazing sound quality to ensure that your guests will be able to hear every single precious word of your ceremony.

What happens if you are sick or have an emergency on our day?

This would be terrible and i would do whatever to be there. In the very unlikely event this happens, I have a great network of celebrant friends all across Victoria and some in other states. If I was unable to make your wedding for whatever reason, I would find another celebrant who could step in and deliver my ceremony.

I need a Marriage Celebrant and MC - can I book you for both?

Absolutely! I love MC’ing weddings. It gives my couples a chance to really relax into the festivities and not have to worry about whether things are running on time or that their guests are being looked after.

How long does a Celebrant wedding take?

My ideal ceremony will be between 20-30 minutes in length. Anything shorter and we don’t get everything covered, anything longer and we can start to lose your guests focus. However you may like to include some rituals and traditions which may take more time. Plus you have a massive day and so much to get through.
